Women and Education

Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Hj Mohd Ali received her Honorary Doctorate of Education in MMU 13th convocation year 2012. Tun delivered a speech reflecting her education journey with a strong support from her parents.  She was one of the ten women who were successfully entering King Edward VII College of Medicine in 1947. She was the only Malay lady selected to the college.

With the song "You raised me up" performed, I am so touch to relate the song with what Tun mentioned in her speech about her father's support for women education: "To raise a daughter is to educate more people for the nation". Tun's contribution to this nation has been witnessed by all.  MMU community has also benefited much from her her intelligence advice, action, and sincere encouragement during her chancellorship for the university. Thank you Tun, you are my role model.
